TMRD is grounded in real, measurable strength built around institutions already delivering clinical care, research, and discovery at scale. The district is anchored by Tampa General Hospital, a nationally recognized academic health system ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the country across multiple specialties, and the University of South Florida (USF), a Carnegie R1 research university with more than $531 million in annual research activity and approximately $190 million in NIH funding—levels that are nationally competitive and among the best in the state. Across this ecosystem, more than 200 physician investigators are leading hundreds of clinical trials, creating direct pathways for translating research into patient care. The district is further strengthened by the University of Tampa, which complements this pipeline with nationally ranked entrepreneurship programs and supports early-stage venture development through its incubator model.
